Garage Door Repair Tips for Cables
Garage door repair on cables can be somewhat complex, and you must practice caution with the springs in the door. As these can cause injury or even death when you are not careful.
Preparation
Make sure that you have the door closed when you are performing repairs to your garage door cables. With some instances, like when a garage door has a slack cable, you will be able to make the repair by cutting a cable and shortening it to remove the excess slack.
Replacement
When your garage door is closed, removing the old cable and replacing it with a new one is pretty straightforward, just make sure there is sufficient tension in the cable once the replacement is done.
Checking
You must be extra careful when checking your work. Make sure there is enough distance between you and the garage door when it is opened, 15 feet should be enough. This will offer you more protection just in case you made a mistake with the installation and you are faced with a spring that breaks.
Mistakes
Never allow too much slack when it comes to installing cable or when your garage door does not open and close properly. Make sure the cables are tightened properly, as some cables will just snap, so you need to check every 6 months for any signs of wear and tear.
To reset a garage door opener keypad, all you will need to do is press the “Learn” button which is usually found at the back or sides of the motor unit. After you have pressed this, you should see an LED light glowing for around 30 seconds. Enter your new PIN and then press enter. Once you have released this button, you will see the LED light blink in the motor unit. This means you have successfully reset your garage door keypad opener.
